Shirin Neshat

Shirin Neshat is an Iranian visual artist and a film artist (now lives in New York City), and her works show the conflicts of the social, cultural, and religion in Muslim world.

I don't practice Muslim, so am not familiar with anything deeper level,,, but her works are super strong to my eyes.

  1. I can see why these works can effect people even they are not from Iran. In their country even though they "call" themselves a democracy country, but for real they just "call". People in the country still under the government, and has no right to to things. So her work imply and reflect culture of her country by using black and white color, and in the works show that people have no right to comment or communicate anything to the country by show the body part with letters imply actions and a gun imply the reaction from country.

  2. Pratt, that is true. There is no way of voicing their opinions. There is only silence. And if they did have an opinion, it would have to be related to the Muslim religion. Her photos convey that notion perfectly to me.
